ABOUT THIS SERIES

These paintings are giant illustrations of the wing surface of a butterfly (or moth) wing, as seen under the microscope. The wings of these insects are carpeted in millions of tiny vibrant scales in an incredible variety of colours. Have you ever touched a butterfly or moth and noticed a fine dust on your fingertips? This is these tiny wing-scales sticking to your skin!

This includes a 2cm border for ease of framing. 

* Please note that this is a Limited Edition Reproduction Print which means that once the edition is sold out there will be no additional art prints made of this particular artwork! Sections of this artwork may be used for textiles but the actual artwork-print number is final.

PLEASE NOTE:

1. No. 36 (limited to 99) and No. 47 (limited to 250) and once sold out, they will no longer be available.

2. No.46 and No.47 are slightly longer than these dimensions (but are framed to the same dimensions as the rest of the collection so can be displayed together).

SIGNED

Each piece is carefully checked, hand-signed, titled and numbered by Chelsea Hopkins-Allan in pencil on the front lower edge of the print. 

CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY

A Certificate of Authenticity will be provided with the artwork.

MATERIALS

Archival pigment inks on 100% cotton archival art paper (museum grade). 

The paper I have chosen is a 310gsm Hahnemuhle German Etching paper. It has a lovely texture and thickness to it like the watercolour paper I use for the originals.

Giclee prints are of an exceptional quality and colour and with appropriate framing/care should remain lightfast (not fade or have their colour affected) for at least a hundred years!!! (This is fine art printing and involves different materials to 'normal' printing, hence the price difference but worth the investment!)

METAL LEAF ACCENT SCALES

Butterfly Wing-Scales No.46 has a scattering of hand-embellished gold-metal-leaf scales and Butterfly Wing-Scales No.47 has the silver, as per placement on the original and Butterfly Wing-Scales painting.

COLOUR VARIATION

Please be aware that there is some variation in all computer screens, this can cause colours to be represented slightly differently when viewed on different screens.  I do my very best to show colours and artworks accurately but please keep in mind that the colours of the actual piece may possibly look a little differently than what you see here!!

FRAME:

The artwork is raised up to 5-mm from backing and beautifully presented in a white box-frame that is custom hand made to museum standards and ready to hang.
