Chelsea Hopkins-Allan’s original Crochet Web Mandalas are individually hand-painted circular works constructed through repeated concentric marks and intricate colour relationships.
This work is distinguished by a cool, layered palette of turquoise and teal interwoven with deep navy, softer green and muted grey. Dark navy rings create strong structural definition through the centre and outer field, while lighter turquoise and teal bands move across the concentric structure, producing a gradual interplay between stronger and softer colour zones. Muted grey and neutral bands provide subtle contrast within the predominantly cool palette.
The repeated hand-painted marks create a dense rhythmic field, with the alternating concentric bands producing depth, balance and subtle visual movement when viewed from different distances.
The Crochet Web Mandala series draws on circular geometry and patterns observed in nature. Each work is individually painted and therefore unique.
The original watercolour paper has been cut around the circular artwork and raised approximately 5 mm above the stark-white backing within a custom handmade white box frame. This floating presentation creates a fine shadow around the circumference and enhances the physical depth of the work.
The original Crochet Web Mandala series has been discontinued. This is therefore a unique existing original from Chelsea Hopkins-Allan’s completed body of Crochet Web Mandala works, with no further originals from the series being produced.
This artwork forms part of the Enigmatic Drawings Art Display Stock Sale collection.
Photography note: The photographs show the actual artwork and frame. The backing behind the artwork is white. In some photographs and scanned images it appears pale blue because of ambient lighting, camera white balance, automatic image processing and the optical effect of photographing the work through its glazing. This cool colour shift can also make some turquoise, teal, green and grey areas of the artwork appear slightly bluer or cooler than they do when viewed directly. The physical artwork has a stark-white backing, and its colours are more naturally balanced and finely detailed when seen in person.
