Butterfly Wing Scales No. 34 is a richly coloured composition inspired by the minute overlapping scales found on butterfly and moth wings. Hundreds of repeated hand-rendered marks form an irregular woven field of colour, combining the biological structure of wing scales with the visual rhythm of crochet, textile and cellular patterning.
The upper and surrounding field is dominated by luminous shades of coral, salmon, rose pink, magenta, orange and red, interspersed with smaller passages of yellow, turquoise, green, blue and white.
Within the lower part of the composition, a large circular formation introduces deeper tones of charcoal, black, olive, forest green, navy and electric blue, surrounding a softly contrasting centre of pale peach, cream and warm pink.
The interaction between the vivid warm surrounding field and the darker circular form creates strong visual depth and gives the work the character of both an enlarged biological structure and a contemporary abstract composition.
The A3 format offers a more compact presentation while preserving the distinctive colour relationships, repeated mark-making and strong circular structure of the work.
The broad white mat and custom white timber frame create a restrained, contemporary presentation around the intensely coloured artwork. The mat is raised approximately 5 mm above the print, creating subtle dimensional separation and shadow within the frame.
This framed open-edition product has been discontinued and no further framed examples in this format are being produced. This is one of the final remaining examples from the Enigmatic Drawings Art Display Stock collection.
This artwork forms part of the Enigmatic Drawings Art Display Stock Sale collection.
Photography note: The photographs show the actual framed display-stock artwork where available. The frame and mat are white. Ambient lighting, reflections through the acrylic glazing, camera angle, camera white balance and image processing may affect the apparent colour, contrast and clarity. The physical print is clearer, more vibrant and more naturally balanced when viewed directly.
