Butterfly Wing Scales No. 42 forms part of Chelsea Hopkins-Allan’s Butterfly Wing Scales series, inspired by the minute overlapping scales that create the extraordinary colour, pattern and structure of butterfly and moth wings.
The composition is constructed from thousands of repeated elongated marks arranged across a densely layered field. Vivid passages of magenta, pink, orange, yellow, green, turquoise, blue and violet move through the work in overlapping bands and clusters, creating a richly coloured surface that changes character depending on viewing distance.
At close range, the individual repeated marks and subtle irregularities within them become increasingly apparent. From further away, these marks merge into broader fields and currents of colour, producing a strong sense of rhythm, movement and visual texture.
The Butterfly Wing Scales series translates the microscopic structures and colour relationships found in butterfly and moth wings into enlarged abstract compositions. The repeated marks retain the organic variation of Chelsea Hopkins-Allan’s original hand-painted work while creating an intricate visual field that rewards both close inspection and more distant viewing.
This A1 archival giclée reproduction is produced on 290 gsm archival fine-art paper using archival pigment inks.
The broad white mat and custom white timber frame provide a clean, restrained presentation around the intensely coloured artwork, allowing the composition to remain the dominant visual element.
This open-edition print is from existing Enigmatic Drawings stock and is being offered professionally framed as part of the Enigmatic Drawings Art Display Stock Sale.
Photography note: Product images may include a clean reproduction of the artwork together with presentation images showing the work framed. The supplied artwork will be professionally framed in white with a white mat and premium-grade acrylic glazing. Ambient lighting, reflections, camera white balance and image processing can affect the apparent colour balance and brightness of photographs. The physical print is clearer and more naturally balanced when viewed directly.
