Crochet Web Mandala No. 100 is a highly structured composition by Chelsea Hopkins-Allan, built from repeated hand-rendered marks arranged in expanding concentric rings.
The work is dominated by layered shades of navy, cobalt and lighter blue, with alternating dark and pale bands creating a strong sense of depth and movement across the circular form.
Thousands of repeated marks build outward from the tightly organised centre, producing a complex web-like structure that appears simultaneously radial, woven and organic. Subtle irregularities in spacing and line preserve the hand-drawn character of the original work and prevent the composition from becoming mechanically uniform.
The interaction between the darker outer rings and the lighter internal passages creates a shifting visual effect as viewing distance changes. At close range, the individual repeated marks and variations become apparent; from further away, they merge into broader concentric fields and an almost three-dimensional circular structure.
The broad white mat creates a clean visual separation around the predominantly blue composition. Raised approximately 5 mm above the print, the mat introduces subtle shadow and dimensional depth within the white custom frame.
